1.- Napping whenever you have the chance. I know life can be stressful and with work, studies, kids or other occupations, we only have a few hours of sleep and that is our main problem to stay in a happy mood during our day. Save a couple of hours to rest (even if you can´t sleep) on your bed, couch or chair, or for meditatation ( preferably in a garden, near a three or water). This will benefit your energy and your mood.
2.- If you have the time, get a pet!. There is nothing better than spending your free hours with a buddy who´s always willing to have fun with you. Cats are perfect for the quiet people, minimum care and not much invesment of energy. Ferrets are extremely funny and easy to carry anywhere you go, no noise during the day or night, a lot of energy and very sneaky sometimes. Dogs are the ideal pets, very used to the lifestyle of the owners, always with enough energy to keep you healthy, and the care they demand is 100% worth it, giving the happiness they provide (especially dogs from shelters). :D
3.- Nature. Do not underestimate the power of natural places to keep you young and happy, most of the rivers, beaches, parks and gardens are used to keep their visitors relaxed and healthy as well. Look for a natural place near your house where you can go by yourself or accompanied, during your day off, or also is very advisable to visit on your way to work or lunch time. A yard at the back of your home will do it perfect if you have a very busy schedule.
4.- Happy food. Did you know that meat sometimes tends to bring a lot of stress for our stomach? it is way better to combine vegetables and fruits with meat to provide a healthy and delicious combination to our bodies. This will not only give you the extra nutricional performance that your body needs but will also keep your circulation system in perfect shape. Bringing at work a small fruits or vegetables salad as a snack, will keep you happy and energetic during the day.
5.- "ME" time. According to my personal experience, this is the most important tip of all. I´ve seen a lot of stressed people with a common denominator: they don´t know what makes them happy.
Always take a little time, even if it´s once a week to be by yourself, to find out what is stressing you out, what makes you sad and what makes you happy. How else will you discover the things that you need if you haven´t asked yourself? Don´t be afraid to be by yourself, to go to the movies, to read a nice book, or just eating an ice cream! treat yourself the way you want others to treat you.
Don´t forget that at the end of the day, the most important person in your life, it´s you :)
